Save the Trees!

"Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It's not." -The Lorax

We have all seen the trash that gathers on the side of the road and in the creeks, but what is being done about it? As of right now, nothing much. The U.S has very poor environmental policies and a very bad "addiction" to using all the fossil fuels available. As of right now the U.S uses a third of the worlds resources alone, and is in the top three countries for producing the most pollution. Not to mention that some of our resources are vastly disappearing and we have to come up with more ways to compensate for the loses.

Now is the time to take action and still make a difference. If the U.S adopted more environmentally safe policies and let go of its drug like addiction to oil and other fossil fuels our future would be safe guarded. But because the oil companies have such a strong hold on politicians through their special interest groups it is nearly impossible for such actions to take place.

The environment should be the first of many investments the  U.S has on its priority list. Mainly because it is the lively hood of many Americans that are affected and will be affected if Congress doesn't push through many bills that would help restore the environment. Its not like it has been completely ignored, many of our past Presidents have been aware of the issue and have adopted many policies, but there were also some who have completely chosen to ignore the facts and push on with the dangers of using fossil fuels. We are in the 21st century, it is about time we start focusing on new ways to produce and conserve energy and let go of our 18th century bad habit.

  1. Over the years the topic of the blog post, Save the Trees, has become more of an important factor for the future of the world. This post focuses on the environmental changes that need to be made throughout the United States. A topic, such as this, opens the eyes of any American reader onto how this country is currently wasting the world’s resources and, because of that, is harming the future of the country and the world.

The blog focuses mainly on how fossil fuel has become a “bad addiction” for the United States. The article supports that statement with the statistic that the United States is in the top three countries in the world that produce the most pollution and use a third of the world’s resources. There is no information on where that statistic came from, but it still demonstrates the magnitude of the United States’ dependency on harmful resources, affecting the Earth’s environment negatively, and that this dependency is increasing on a daily basis.

The article brings up the point that oil companies have too much control and say on the politics of America. They have a strong influence on the government through the amount of money that they put into it and politicians don’t have the countries best interest at heart but their own. This affects whether the government actually takes the steps that are need for more environmentally safe policies that will make a difference.

This article criticizes the overuse of fossil fuels but does not discuss any of the alternatives and changes that could be made to benefit the environment. For example, the government could follow the urging of climatologists to both extinguish the out of control coal fires in the United States and assist with this problem around the world. This would significantly decrease the production of greenhouse gases, which are poisoning the environment while precipitating climate change, and it could done at a relatively low cost.

I believe that this issue is important and is a work in progress, and more citizens are becoming increasingly aware of the problem. The government needs to keep up the momentum to make this a safer and healthier world for everyone.
